LBE opts for fortnightly collections and £65 annual “green bin” charge

The BHPRA understands that the Cabinet has decided to opt for fortnightly collections for the black and blue bins as well as levying a £65 annual charge for households to have their green bin emptied, despite this being one of the least popular options in the recent consultation.

We also understand that unless this decision is subject to a “call-in” by the Scrutiny Committee, the decision will go before the full Council for approval.  The Cabinet decision includes a plan for weekly food collections.

Michael Gove (Secretary of State for the Environment) has weighed into this debate with a report in the Mail on Sunday.
